Many lakes in Southern California
compete for your business and that's good because in today's economy,
a little friendly competition is essential to survive.
Competition between the lakes is also
great for the fisherman because it increases your odds of catching
more fish which makes you want to return to your favorite lake on your
next fishing trip.
Which ever
lakes you chose to fish, we appreciate the fact that you are spending
your free time fishing with your friends and family, because fishing
is still one of the last quality outdoor sports that is fun and
affordable and more people need to be introduced to great sport of
fishing. So thank you for fishing where ever you choose to fish !!
On 11/20/09 a similar
looking ad was produced and began to run in Western Outdoor News and was
published on the Internet.
Naturally, we could not let this go unanswered.

When we saw the claim that "NO ONE STOCKS MORE TROUT" we responded with the following flyer that we published on our website.
Knowing how many fish we stock, and have stocked year after year, and
knowing that no other lake in this area, buys and stocks as many trout as we do each
year, we felt it was necessary set the record straight and reassure our customers
that their odds of catching more quality trout, and bigger trout were best
at Santa Ana River Lakes and Corona Lake. Despite anything the Other Lake might
try to claim in their advertising.

(1/07/09) OF THE ABOVE FLYER
Apparently this flyer ruffled some feathers. So the
Other Lake
thought long and hard, made some wild assumptions, and came up with their
own
flyer. It is inaccurate, and stretches the truth at best. We will explain
below.
Their flyer titled
"THE
REAL FACTS ABOUT STOCKING" was posted
on FishingNetwork.net and on the front page of their website.
UPDATE 12/30/09 - Their flyer that
was originally posted for the link above, has been replaced with a new
flyer on the FNN Site, the internet, and on the Other Lake's website. So
what you now see is a totally different position than what they were
trying to claim in their first flyer.
First they tried to claim that "NO ONE
STOCKS MORE TROUT"
Then they tried to claim that they "STOCKED MORE TROUT PER ANGLER"
Now, all they are claiming is that they stock more trout in "ONE" Lake.
Well like their first two claims, their latest claim not exactly accurate
either. Don't they also stock 2 lakes? In fact, many of the Other Lake's
fishing reports, are posted about their anglers that catch many fish from
their small lake they call the Lagoon, which must also be stocked with
trout. Or are the trout in the Lagoon "holdovers". :)
This is funny stuff, what position will the
Other Lake take next?
Click on the above link to view
their NEW flyer and then use your back arrow or button to return to this page
for some interesting reading.
1) By 11/2/09, the Other Lake
claimed to have stocked 15,000 pounds of trout, and on 11/4/09 they would
stock an additional 5,000 pounds of "trophy trout" for all those who were
invited to their Press and VIP party, or those willing to pay $150.00 to
fish that day. They would not let their regular customers fish that day,
only the "special people" were allowed in. That will never happen at Santa
Ana River Lakes or Corona Lake, because all of our customers are special
to us.
Their trout are delivered in a small 6 wheel flatbed delivery truck, not a
huge 18 wheeler, tractor truck and trailer like we mainly use. Their supplier's
delivery truck does not hold that many pounds of trout, so several
deliveries had to be made to deliver the first 15,000 pounds of trout and
probably 2 more deliveries to deliver the 5,000 pounds of "trophy trout".
Typically, a flatbed delivery truck like the one their trout supplier uses
will safely carry up to approximately
4,000 pounds of trout on a full load.
Reliable sources in the trout business, say that their
trout supplier's delivery truck which is shown below, has three tanks that are
designed to hold 500 gallons of water each. And in that amount of water,
1,000 to 1,350 pounds of trout can be transported in each tank, and any
number of pounds over that amount would be "pushing it".

Photo of their suppliers 3 tank
delivery truck.
In order to stock 5,000 pounds on a single delivery, 1,666 pounds of
trout would need to be held in each tank. Pushing a delivery up to 1,666
pounds in each tank is not recommended, because less water would need to
be used to allow more room for the fish and to avoid
being overweight on the truck. This would be very stressful for the
trout. However, those experts say, it might be possible to deliver that many trout
on a short distance delivery, under the perfect conditions, and with
smaller trout but it is not recommended. Calaveras County to Orange County
is not a short distance delivery.
Therefore, to have 5,000 pounds of trout delivered each week, experts say,
the delivery truck should stock the lake two times a week with around
2,500 pounds on each delivery. And if their supplier is actually
delivering 5,000 pounds each week, in one delivery, they would like to
know how it is being done without killing a lot of trout.
So here's the
question to ask, has their delivery truck been coming two times a
week to the lake ??? Each and every week ??? If not, then their claim of
stocking 5,000 pounds of trout each week might be suspect.
STOCKING UPDATE: 1/07/09
-
Here are our
STOCKING FACTS. As of 1/07/09 we have purchased and stocked
91,700 pounds of trout since our first stocking of trout on October
14, 2009. The Other Lake claims in their new flyer to have
stocked 61,000 pounds of trout as of 12/25/09.
-
THIS IS SIMPLE, 91,700 pounds
vs. ????? pounds (now). Who buys and stocks the most trout? WE DO !!
- That's
about 27% more trout stocked in around 75% less surface acres of
water.
2) Corona Lakes is never drained, and therefore, we too can also
make claims about holdover fish. Santa Ana River Lakes is only drained
about every 3 to 4 years and we always harvest the holdover fish and
restock them. But truthfully, wasn't the original claim "NO ONE STOCKS
MORE TROUT" about stocking, and not holdover fish? All lakes have holdover
fish, so that's nothing to boast about. But it is very doubtful that any
trout survive the warm water of summer in this area. Do you recall ANY
trout being caught during the warmest part of the summer??? If the
trout could holdover, wouldn't at least a few get caught??? Trout need to
stay in water that has plenty of oxygen, especially trout which have a
higher oxygen requirement than say catfish. So thinking that the trout go
into deeper colder water where the oxygen is usually much lower, is not a
logical solution for their survival. Therefore the holdover claim, at
least for trout, is doubtful.
We use our holding pens at Santa Ana River Lakes
only when necessary and do not use them at Corona Lake. At Santa Ana River
Lakes, we need to be able to distribute fish to Chris' Pond and sometimes
to Huckleberry Pond, and we cant do it when the stocking truck arrives at
our Lakes with full tanks. Therefore, we put fish in the pens and our
staff then transfers the trout with our portable stocking trailer to other
areas around the Lake. Any body that fishes Santa Ana River Lakes on a
Wednesday or Thursday, can see it done each week.
3) The number of pounds stocked per fisherman, that
the Other Lakes
claims we stock in their flyer, is very misleading and incorrect because the mathematical
figures they used were not based in fact, but only based on a guess, and
you can't "DO THE MATH" when you guess at the figures. GUARANTEED,
we stock way more fish per angler than what they estimated in their flyer.
The daily photos of the fish caught each day at our Lakes and the stocking
videos we produce for you each week prove that. Using the pounds stocked
per angler is misleading because the Other Lake front-loaded their figures with
their initial stocking to exaggerate their numbers. The truth is, that
figure will drop each week for the Other Lake until it gets to around only 2 pounds per
angler because that is all they are stocking each week. Example: They claim their
average weekly attendance is 2,459 anglers. Divide that into 5,000 pounds
of trout stocked each week and 2.03 pounds per angler is all you get.
Therefore, you have 720 acres of water to fish in, and all that the Other
Lake is stocking for you to catch is, one 2-pound trout. That's nothing to brag
about.
The most reliable factor in determining the best odds of
catching fish is stocking density, not the number of pounds stocked per
angler. Anybody that runs a fishing lake know this, as do most fishermen. This is simple to understand. If 5,000 pounds are stocked into 720
acres of water, that's only 7 pounds of fish per acre, or an area
measuring approximately 210' x 210'. However if 5,000 pounds are stocked
in 180 acres, the pounds of fish in that same area are nearly 28 pounds.
7 pounds vs. 28 pounds per acre. That's simple math that anyone can
understand. Our average weekly
stocking density figure is currently around 39 pounds per acre, not
7 pounds per acre lake the Other Lake.
Stocking density is easier to understand, is much more
reliable in helping you determine where you have the best odds of catching
fish. Also, it can't be front-loaded to manipulate a figure that will decrease
to nearly half of the exaggerated amount in a very short period of time.
4) Our valued anglers know the odds of catching
trout are much better at our Lakes. This is why
more anglers choose to
fish our Lakes. We are the heaviest stocked and heaviest fished lakes
anywhere around. Moreover, our anglers catch the highest quality pink meat
trout available. Our Lakes are NOT stocked with a bunch of small white
meat stockers that can be caught at any park lake.
We have three main suppliers for our quality trout. They provide us
with the "Tailwalkers", the "SierraBows", and the "RubyRed Steelhead".
Additionally, Mt. Lassen Trout Farm provides our Lakes with the biggest
rainbow trout he can grow each year, and has done so for many years. The "Tailwalkers", the "SierraBows", and the "RubyRed Steelhead"
trout are the finest examples of what quality trout should be. All of
these fish have delicious firm pink meat, just like a wild trout that
might be caught in the outback country of Alaska or Canada. They are
selected for their beautiful rich body colors, full fins and tails and
most importantly, how hard they fight. The trout at our Lakes are bigger,
tougher and better quality that you will find anywhere. Additionally, our
anglers can rely upon the fact that when they catch trout at out lakes,
they are getting the finest quality trout available. More reasons why more
anglers fish our lakes. That many anglers, can't be wrong about where they
choose to fish.
5) No lake around has consistently, year after year,
produced as many big trout as Santa Ana River Lakes and Corona Lake has.
No other lake even comes close. Sure, some lakes might stock and have
caught an occasional 12 or 13 pound fish that is used for marketing
purposes all season long. But nothing compares the parade of huge trout
that are caught each and every week at Santa Ana River Lakes and Corona
Lake. Example, in the last week or so a parade of HUGE trout in 20 pound
class were caught and this will continue each week, all season long. To
see these HUGE trout visit our website at
http://www.fishinglakes.com.
No lake, river or stream, anywhere has set or broken as
many California State Records for trout as our Lakes have. The State Trout
Record was broken 5 times at our Lakes in recent years. And our current
Lake Record Rainbow Trout is 28.10 pounds !! Santa Ana River Lakes also
holds the current State Record for Channel Catfish at 58 pounds!! No other
lake can make claims like ours, because no other lake stocks fish
like we do. And here's
the "BIG NEWS" for this trout season. We have just made the
arraignments to have at least 2 trout in the 30+ pound class stocked very
soon in our Lakes which will again break and set a new California State Record for
Rainbow Trout. Will you be the next California Record Holder? If you
fish Santa Ana River Lakes or Corona Lake, you could be...
If you got down to here, thank you for taking the time and
giving us the opportunity to set the record straight. We did not start
this, but were more than happy to finish it. Again, this all started
when an ad was placed in Western Outdoor News, and on the Internet, claiming "NO ONE STOCKS
MORE TROUT" and naturally, we could not let that go unanswered.
Words claimed in an ad and figures
manipulated to exaggerate a point are one thing, but actual RESULTS
that can be seen in daily photos, are another. See for yourself...
